Bulimba Brew Box
Brisbane, Australia
Bulimba Brewhouse is on site now, with the project anticipated to be finalised in early 2022.
This small addition to a pre-1946 Queensland house includes a purpose-built space for brewing craft beer with an adjoining entertainment space, which doubles as a carport.
In response to town planning controls for building character, the front of the structure has been designed as a subtle reinterpretation of local ‘timber and tin’ traditional building character, with a palette of galvanised steel and Australian hardwoods playing typical roles. When transitioning to the backyard these same materials shift function, with galvanised cladding giving way to an array of native timber battens.
Internally, a simple structure of exposed timber portal frames provides increased ceiling clearance and further experiments with the notion of timber construction within the traditional Queensland context.
